Mt. Hood ~ Mt. Hood, OR Oil on canvas 36” x 48” 2004
Mount Hood, called “Wy’east” by the Multnomah Indian tribe, is considered a potentially active volcano in the Cascade volcanic arc. It is located 50 miles east-southeast of Portland, Oregon and is the state’s highest mountain at 11,429 feet as well as home to 12 named glaciers and snow fields. It has been dormant since 1907, but is considered the Oregon volcano most likely to erupt by the U.S. Geological Survey, though an explosive eruption is unlikely.
